What is actually behind the cost of living crisis?
Come all all you idiots have noticed these changes.... and you havent' complained ... interesting...
I don't think overpopulation is the cause... (wealth and education is too concentrated for the really poor to succeed in life- more world than Canada) Someone else said Greed... I can agree... Another problem is billionaires/Large Corporations who buy up everything (and in doing so, cause less competition between companies), or use patents to prevent competition. Another problem is taxations... tax cut for the rich and corporations . (lobby groups that persuade elected officials is another). Tax schemes for the rich (eg look at Bill gates buying up farmland and putting it into a trust, which he gets a tax break on--- one example) same shit happens in Canada under different areas of the taxcode. Government bailouts of companies that are too big to fail?? Banks and Car companies. When things were good for the high school guy in the 60/70/80s could get a job sweeping the floors at 2-3 time min wage at the big car companies. This was still in the era of when major companies looked after their employees and CEO were paid a handsome wage, but not outrageous.... Today a company has to pay a CEO 10 million or more ... which is stupid, the companies are better off supporting their employees. Union busting is one of the big things companies did, by forcing retractions in benefits (sick days went from lifetime to yearly use it or lose it). In Canada from the 70 s most Companies were the only company in town and schooling was organized by industry for the town/city. Today education is focused on business, computer useage, but not skill and trades. If anyone thinks about it, most trades could be taught in high school, not secondary school... The math for trade school is high school math, not rocket science. Carpentry, pipefitting and metal working can all be done at high school level... but it is not. YOu need a specialized college now. Pretty much today companies pay workers to move paperwork around... at every level someone has to sign off. But no real work like manufacturing gets done... Also the liberal government CO2 remissions and paying for "Carbon credits" is a waste of time and is a major damper on starting anykind of industry in Canada... Carney has oked 150-200 billion in projects, but they haven't started at all... just another election promise that won't start unless he wins the next election (me being cynical again) Canada needs to build 1. Major large scale shipyards (with steel plants to back them up) for trade. Need to update our policies on foreign ships in Canada (1 port only to support our own industry in ship building like the US has). 1 east coast (Near a coastal plain, all big cities are over used so new site is needed), 1 west coast (one of the big islands between mainland and van island). 2. Major need of trains and tracks to be upgraded to double or triple lines for cargo and passenger trains (high speed between major cities in Ontario/Quebec and on the Prairies (AB, Sask, Mb). most train tracks were for grain production in the 30/40/50/60.... High speed trains between canadian cities instead of air planes... 3. Major need of new canals in Ontario. 4 Major need of canal from AB to Churchill Mb. 5 Major need of canal on the McKenzie river going north to the Arctic. (Major engineering due to permafrost) 6. Major overhaul on how Canada does mining (pretty much set up for robber barons to mine, and make profits, but not Canada or Canada's future) 7. Today every company is about profit and dividend to its shareholders.... that attitude has got to be busted, it should be focused on sustainability and future development. 8. Arctic drilling for mineral and oil should be opened. (development under a Canadian/Government Company) 9 Queen Charlotte Islands open for oil field (development under a Canadian/Government Company) 10 Simple interest loans for farmers to build Canadian winter capable hot/green houses to grow fruits and vegetables for winter use) 11. Lowcost apartments (at 2500-3000 sq ft) for young couples who want to start families (allow them to rent out the spare bedroom), with 4 parking spaces. that is a 2 story, ( 30 by 50 ft ) apartment. Make it 20 stories high for 10 levels of apartments... 12. New housing-- no swimming pools under 1/2 acres but you need a garden 2X the size of your swimming pool on any new construction(or greenhouse construction 2X swimming pool). Any new house will need a cold storage area for canned veggies and stuff... Implement mass heat storage from solar gain into house heating. Under ground air pipe inlet for furnace air and cooling during summer.. This will save on electric heat or heating cost for a home.
