Raids on Richmond MP's by bylaw officers
Heads up to anyone who visits Richmond MP's. Saw this article on news 1130 today. Doesn't specify what happens if they find a customer in the MP at the time but I'm sure most of us would want to avoid that situation. https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/02/09/richmond-massage-parlour-raids-sex-workers/

The crackdown and their supposed rationale are complete BS. I know for a fact that Tina does not hire anyone that doesn't have citizenship, PR or a work permit. SL has operated problem free in Richmond for over 20 years. RMD citizens are not naïve about what goes on in these places. As many come from Asia, places like these are intuitional places of recreation in the community. Nobody cares as long as papa is happy and he brings home the char shiu. If they wanted to crack down on illicit activity in unlicensed situations and premises, why are not they cracking down on the agencies? It's not as if they are far below the surface and hard to identify. They share the same social and ad channels as the licensed MPs. In many of these agencies the provider will list 'limited ' or 'basic' English. Good chance these girls are trafficked or are students without a proper work permit. And even if they did have a student work permit, none of these jobs or premises would qualify. In addition, many of these operations work out of high end condos and I am sure the residents don't want this sort of activity happening where they live. Especially after shelling out $1500/ sq ft. Could you imagine if this happened in your building at all hours of the day?? My guess is that someone is pissed that SL is getting so much attention and success that they want to initiate complaints and disrupt their business. This sort of thing has happened before and it WILL blow over in a few short weeks. Have no fear pooners his will come to pass.
Even having a work permit or PR puts a worker in an unlawful situation. It says right on the work permit and PR form 3. Not Valid For Employment In Businesses Related To The Sex Trade Such As Strip Clubs, Massage Parlours Or Escort Services.

Work permit however does... that's different.

Click to expand... Nope. The fact that the seller is given immunity from prosecution doesn't mean that they are engaged in a legal activity. It's like sex between adults and underage, the fact that minors don't get prosecuted does not mean that sex between adults and minors is a legal activity. Landlords have 100% legal rights to evict sex workers because they are engaged in an illegal activity.

It is not illegal but immune to prosecution as you suggested. As for the other aspects that ae so called criminalized.. You do realize multiple courts have ruled against those laws already right.
Sex workers are OK. Being a PIMP or phone person is the ones they go after, but I don't think they really care.

What a woman does with her body, providing sexual services for pay for example, is NOT illegal in Canada. They even have a Federal Tax Code for it. Simply put, you are wrong and should stay with what you know. SSL
